Christian Meditation: Why it’s an Important Practice

Meditation is something that has been a subject of discussion in many fields and I think this is mainly because of the way in which the subject is magnified within the new age systems. However, the aspect of Christianity and the supernatural cannot be negated regardless of the counterfeit practices we see out there. Christian meditation is different from the new-age type of meditation in the sense that; while new age meditation entails emptying the mind of thought, Christian meditation entails filling the mind with God’s word.

When engaging in Christian meditation, the mind should be continually allowed to dwell on things that are true, just, lovely, and of good report. It’s important to note that Christianity without the aspect of the supernatural only boils down to religion and experiencing the supernatural may not be possible without having an understanding of meditation.  The Bible is filled with supernatural experiences that spread all the way from the Old Testament to the New Testament. One thing that every believer in these end-times should be well conversant with is the ability to discern the real from the counterfeit.

It’s important to note that every believer has been called to participate in the greatest release of God’s supernatural power and that requires the practice of meditation. In Joshua 1: 8 we read where God admonishes Joshua to meditate over the book of the law day and night and be careful to do according to what is written therein.

What is Christian Meditation?

Christian meditation is a conscious continuous engagement of the mind with God. Renewal of the mind by the word of God is part of the process as you allow the word of God to penetrate the soul and to the spirit as the light of the word illuminates the inner part so as to bring transformation. Meditation takes us from living in the world of effect to a higher dimensional life. It enables us to see God in a bigger light and revelation than the nominal perspective that we normally have.

In order to effectively meditate, our souls need to be able to reflect upon what the mind has consumed/ingested and that heart needs to rejoice in what the soul has grasped. We meditate on the scriptures when we slowly read, imbibe what we have read prayerfully and choose to rely humbly on what God has revealed unto us through His word. Taking time to meditate on the word of God is quite vital for successful Christian living.

All meditation should be able to take us from the dimension of the visible to the invisible. Where we get to contemplate the divine realities as we ponder on the power of the almighty God, where our consciousness can get filled with the realization and the meaning of divine love. It’s through meditation that we get to have a grasp of what the Lord has made available for us; that which we need to use the creative power embedded in us to bring forth.

Here are some of the reasons why you should practice meditation;

Enhances our Vision

We can never see the material word clearly when we view them through material senses. Lack of clarity of vision leads to a lack of direction and purpose and that in turn results in a lack of productivity and aimless meandering. When our vision is clear we are able to see as God sees and also to see the endless possibilities that have been made available for us.  Meditation has the potential of taking us beyond the blockages that have been created in our mind and thoughts and cause to see things in their true nature.

Exposes us to the Limitless Potential in God

Meditation moves us beyond the limitations and constraints of the physical realm. It puts us into a spiritual reality where we get to perceive things in their true nature. If we only choose to settle in the realm of what we can ask or can think then we definitely set ourselves to missing on a lot that God has made available for us. Operating on such a level only makes us ask God for things that we perceive to be possible and that can be limiting.

Our transformation is into the image of God and we cannot effectively embrace the image of God if we only operate on the mental plane. Our mind is quite limited to what it can believe is possible in God. However, through the practice of meditation, we get transformed into the very image that we uphold.
